Too good to be true

UnknownI think in life there are so many examples of over hyped products and the triathlon would is full of them.

High on promise, low on delivery.

I remember my first experience of this was with a pair of trainers as a kid.

I was told by a friend who had some, they were light as a feather and were like walking on air – I took him literally.

I begged my Mum to buy me some, to no avail.

It was a good 10 years later that I bought an updated version of Nike Air and it was not like walking on air!

But then again what did I think walking on air would be like?

I don’t know, but they just felt the same as my other trainers.

The triathlon industry is full of such products.

Words used by marketers to excite us, word like:
aero
carbon
vector
International
Elite
I am as sucked in as the next man but generally I am disappointed.

The bottom line is, you can have all the gear and not be that much faster.

We are the engine and it is our body that will get us the results – the kit is just a bonus.

A bonus which is bloody expensive too!

Getting your nutrition perfect is not something I can sell you with such words – such hype.

It’s not my style.

I believe in honest, hard work.

I believe in it as a way to get results athletically and nutritionally.

It is one of the reasons I am so attracted to sport – it is essentially honest – EPO aside!

If you are the same, it is worth checking out my private coaching group – The Total Triathlete:
