Its not your fault

The simple fact is that we are designed to be fat.

In a time where food availability was unpredictable, it was a genetic advantage to be able to sore fat – the upshot being you would likely live longer.

As such it is almost evolution that those who are left, were the best at storing fat.

However we now do NOT have a shortage of food – the opposite is true.

Interestingly, having the ability to store too much fat is now a disadvantage, as the overweight are more likely to have health problems and ultimately die.

So it may be that those of us with that ability are phased out of the gene pool and in how ever many tens of thousands of years, only the naturally lean will be left.

This is an interesting theory and I believe is applicable to many of us.

It also explains why we find it easy to get fat.

Unfortunately the past would have provided us with famine, which would have sorted our body composition and cost many lives.

In the first world we are lucky to not have this problem.

And we have to artificially create our own:

Alas, the multi billion dollar diet industry!

But why does this industry fail so many?

So often it provides a plan, the right food to eat, the best pills to pop and the correct exercise to do.

What it does not do, is provide support.

It doesn’t work on our adherence to the plan.

Once its been sold, its up to you.

Some will succeed, many won’t.

Knowing what to do, is the easy bit.

Sticking to it though, is what matters above all else.

Any weight loss journey will leave you with questions and I’ve had many this week.

One or two weeks of fat loss, may be followed by a slight gain or a stall.

It is when this happens, that we can worry its not working and give up.

The sad thing is that is likely just before the magic happens.

Thats when you need a voice of reason to run things by and the Group is perfect for that.
