Sacrifice.

imageTo be good at anything at life in life we have to make a choice.  Often that choice is about what we are going to give up to achieve our aims.
This is particularly the case with regard to nutrition.

How many times have you heard someone say (maybe even you):

“I am giving up chocolate”

or

“I am laying off the booze for a month”

Personally I think this is a sure fire way to fail with nutrition.

You see, eating is different to training – you have to do it to survive and you will always have to do it.

To me, that means that you need to establish a method which works for you.

You need to establish habits and laying off alcohol for a set time is not a habit.  It’s usually a reaction to a period of overconsumption.

I remember reading something of Lance Armstrong’s where he said he enjoyed the sacrifice needed to be successful and to some extent I agree with this and understand it.

But…………..

Nutrition is a bit different, so how to we establish habits?

One at a time.

Do too much to soon and that habit wont have time to become natural – it usually takes around 21 days.

A change you can make right away that can have an impact on your nutrition is to eat slower.  This is easy to implement and doesn’t involve any sacrifice but will have a positive effect.

You’ve all heard how it takes 20 mins for the brain to realise the stomach is full?

So, every time you eat a meal, set a watch and make sure it takes you 20 mins to eat that meal – eventually that will become a habit and you wont need the watch.

This is a simple but very effective way to reduce your body fat levels and it does take commitment but not sacrifice.
