The benefits of coffee

So, nearly everyone drinks it and we’ve all been told how bad it is, but what are the benefits?

I should firstly say that if you add sugar or worse still and sweeteners the benefits will be negated.

Coffee has high concentrations of beneficial antioxidants, phenolic nutrients, chlorogenic acids and lots of other healthy stuff.

In fact, coffee provides one of the biggest source of antioxidants in the western diet.

This isn’t actually a good thing but more a reflection of just how bad the western diet is and lacks enough vegetables and fruits.

The best way to drink it is black and unsweetened.

However if you must have a little sweetness, try coconut sugar.

If you are a stickler for a fancy latte or frapacino beware that there will be a decent whack of calories

If you want milk, go for organic full fat or even a little full fat cream.

Then if you want to get fancy pop in a little coconut oil for some good fats and/or a little cinnamon which tastes good and also helps with controlling blood sugars.

In terms of which type of coffee – again go for the organic option where possible.

So if you’re feeling a little sleepy this Thursday you know what to do, but go easy one coffee a day is enough.
