Have you got no self control?

imageIt’s not easy when you live in a world where you are surrounded by tasty, sugary, processed treats.

Especially if you have a greedy fat person inside of you and believe you me, my alter ego is hungry all the time!!

As I write this I am sat in costa coffee (a British chain which produces highly calorific cakes).

The woman opposite is drinking pepsi and eating what looks like a blueberry muffin – the muffin has 500 calories.  Her two sons are drinking an innocent smoothie (packed with sugar) and each have a muffin as well

I am having an americano but to get there I have to walk past a display case packed full of nice looking cakes and I love cake.

I feel a bit like an alcoholic sat in a pub full of drunk people having a great time.  I could just have one drink and it would make me feel better but then what……….

Its the then what which stops me – today at least.

The thing is they have stopped having adverts for alcohol and cigarettes but we are still bombarded with advertising and temptation for “bad” food.

That food though is as harmful as the alcohol and tobacco.

So, its not completely your fault if you get sucked in every now and again and buckle – its almost amazing it doesn’t happen more often.

When we do buckle, its usually because of an emotional decision, maybe we are tired, maybe we feel sorry for ourselves, maybe we just can’t understand why it seems everyone else can eat what they like and not get fat???

The fact is though that the cake or whatever you want there and then is stopping you achieving your goal.

Its like a head wind on that last stretch of your 40k bike where you are sat on a good average and you slowly watch it disappear.

You do though have some options:

– You can stop
– You can slow down
– You can cry inside
– You can drop a gear, get down low and take that b@stard on – head on!

There is only one option and thats the harder one but as a wise man once said:

“Nothing worth having lies at the end of the path of least resistance”

RECIPE:

Recovery is critical to continued performance – below is a very simple idea for a well balanced, convenient recovery strategy:

25g chocolate whey protein
250ml coconut milk
1 banana

This combination is great after a long ride or hard session where you need ome easy calories quickly.  You get a good balcnace of protein, carbs and fat – all of which will help with the recovery process

Then just try and eat a meal 1-2 hour after the shake.
