Why do you train?

UnknownI guess we all have our reasons why we started triathlon.

For many it seems like they start slightly later in life.

Maybe they did sport in their youth, at school, college and university and then they got a REAL job and it all stopped.

Life became more UN-healthy.

More alcohol, food which is prepared quickly aka ready meals.

More money and with it greater choice to buy the unhealthy rewards we feel we need for working.

And then, we wake up….

Were not necessarily happy and definitely not fit and healthy.

So it is like triathlon is a route back to our younger, happy, healthier selves.

That might all seem a bit deep but acknowledging you are not as fit and healthy as you would like and then doing something about it is remarkably positive.

Taking up sport is proven to make adherence to a healthier lifestyle far more successful than joust joining a gym.

You give yourself a purpose to train.

And this training will make you healthier.

I am reading a book at the moment which says that if they could make a pill which replicated the positive effects of exercise, it would be a multi billion dollar brand.

They can’t though, which is why training is so good for you.

As we know though, it is only part of the puzzle.

It gives us a great start but perhaps it doesn’t give you the icing on the cake that good nutrition does – Sorry, cake isn’t good nutrition, although there are good and bad cakes.

Good quality training paired with good quality nutrition is where the magic happens.

It gives you a healthier body and a better performing body.

It is also the thing which will give you a six pack, more than any training plan ever could.

Good nutrition will help you get the very most from your training and achieve more as an athlete and help make you look like one too.

It is key.

But in the world of sport often people think they can get away with eating less ideal foods because of their exercise regime.

To some extent they can but surely if you are going to get up at 5am and go swimming, it is wroth getting the best results you can for your body, isn’t it?

Especially when that comes from only a little more effort.

The problem is that people so often do not know what to do.
