What is the perfect diet for Triathlon?

Well my friends the truth is that nobody really knows that for sure.

Whilst people have conducted studies into endurance nutrition, unless you are very very lucky they will not have conducted a study into you.

And quite simply it is only you that matter.

Let use two examples:

Firstly, Scott.

Scott is 38, has one child, is married and has a physical job. He has done a couple of sprints and estimates he is approximately 2 stone over weight. This year he wants to complete his first 70.3 so is stepping up training from 4x per week to 6-8 sessions.

Secondly, Olivia.

Olivia is 26 and single. She has always done sport and has a background in cross country running but has recently changed to Triathlon where she hope to do her first Ironman in 12 months. She is already lean but wants to optimise her performance. She has a part time job and will train 12x per week.

It is obvious that there is a significant difference between Scott and Olivia. Not only age and gender but the distance of race they are training for, their current circumstances and their training history.

All of which will have an impact on their nutritional needs.

Both would have different calorie requirements.

Both would eat different amounts of Protein Carbs and fats.

But both don’t know how to figure this out.

Google search after google search has left them confused.

They both want to do as well as possible in their upcoming races and just want to know what to do.

Scott and Olivia are both ex clients who both recently raced in their chosen races VERY successfully.

We worked together to find the best plan for them, which meant some experimentation and some failure. But in the end we got there a damm site quicker that if they had just kept up with the google search.

If this sounds familiar check out my Private Coaching Group – The Total Triathlete:

The Total Triathlete

A group dedicated to sorting out the nutrition of triathletes with very different aims.

Some internationals, some raw novices.

What they share though is the desire to be their best come race day.
