When should a triathlete diet?

UnknownI was chatting with a new client on the phone yesterday about when is the best time to try and lose fat.

Quite rightly, he told me that he wanted to lose some weight now, when training was not at it’s toughest.

Sadly this is not the way most people go about their fat loss.

A bit like when I was revising for my GCSE’s some twenty odd years ago, they leave it until the last minute.

I should of course have worked tirelessly all year but like a lot of 16 year old boys, I had far more important things to do than worry about my future!

So I messed about all year, leaving the work until when it mattered, which was of course the night before!

You know the outcome…..

It wasn’t disastrous but one thing is for sure and it’s something I will always regret a little.

I under performed.

I didn’t get what I was capable of, or what I thought I deserved.

The fact is though that I did get what I deserved because I didn’t do the work!

For you, if you want to lose fat or change your body composition, the best time is whilst the training volume and intensity is lower, which for most will be round about now.

If you don’t do it now, you will likely panic and try and do the work on the weeks leading up to your competition.

When your training is toughest and you need the calories to recover and prepare properly.

So the answer is of course to do it now.

You can learn new habits now as well which will stand you in good stead for your “A” race.

For you to really get what you are capable of performance wise and fat loss wise, NOW is the best time.

You CAN’T hire me at the moment though – I am full.
