Don’t obsess on goals

Triathletes are all about goals.

You pick an “A” race and then you do what it takes to hit that goal, BUT………….

Let’s say you’ve entered a 70.3 in June next year and you’ve decided you want to break 6 hours.

Picking that goal is easy but what are you going to do to get there:

Get a bike fit?
Buy some new trainers?
Hire a coach?
Give up work?
See your kids less?

Some of the above are obviously more sensible!!

What is important to your goal is picking some behaviours which you can begin to work on straight away.

Let’s say you need to get better at running – what can you do every day to help?

Some days you must train?

Some days you must rest?

Perhaps you need a weekly massage?

Perhaps you need a training plan?

Perhaps you just need to lose 7 pounds?

Whatever it is, it is the behaviours which you can do regularly to work towards these goals which must be focused on rather than the outcome itself.

For example:

If you need to lose weight you will need to figure out your calorie goals.

Your macronutrient ratios.

Find some good recipes which fuel your training but improve your body composition.

Understand which foods work for your body.

All of which you can get in my E-Book – The Triathlete Nutrition Code:

If you follow the recipes, setup your calories appropriately and hit the macros for your body type you will lose fat.

You don’t even have to do it 100% of the time, just 80%.
